At Creative Coffins we are extremely committed to providing a green alternative to traditional wooden coffins but don’t believe that this should mean comprising on choice or style. We hope that by offering individually designed carton board coffins we can encourage people to opt for a more environmentally friendly burial or cremation.

Our brief specifications are:

Environmentally sympathetic and certified non-toxic, our Compakta carton board coffins are suitable for both burial and cremation.

All of our coffins are made from carton board materials produced from unbleached pulp containing at least 60% recycled paper and all wood pulp is from forests certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

We use only natural starch based glues in assembly - no bolts, screws, tape or other fixings.

Our handles are made from natural woven cotton.

The patented design of this casket allows for a dignified and beautiful appearance which does not cause undue pollution or use up excessive amounts of valuable trees and yet is exceedingly practical.

Each carton board coffin weighs under 10kg which drastically reduces transport costs, also helping to reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impact of the funeral.

Celebrants and Officiants

The Alternative Funeral Service

This is an alternative ceremony to a traditional Faith Funeral and is particularly helpful and appropriate when someone dies who has not held any religious beliefs.

Jeremy Caddy individually writes each ceremony. The family may participate if they wish and the service will be respectful of all Faiths. Hymns and prayers may be included if desired.

Most Alternative Funerals will take place in the local Crematorium Chapel but can take place elsewhere, with the final committal happening at the Crematorium or burial ground.

Jeremy will visit the family in their homes to arrange the funeral and will provide a copy of the ceremony for the family to keep.

The area Jeremy covers includes West Berkshire , South Oxfordshire and North Hampshire, but he is willing to travel further if requested.

As well as Funeral ceremonies Jeremy will officiate at burials, interment of ashes and memorial services.

Order of Service

There is no set pattern to an alternative funeral service but the following headings might be included:

  • Introductory Music
  • Welcome
  • Opening Words
  • Reading – poetry or prose
  • The Tribute – a celebration of the life of the deceased
  • The Response – time for reflection
  • Closing Words
  • Reading – poetry or prose
  • Committal – farewell
  • Closing Music

Jeremy Caddy is a retired Headteacher who has a deep interest in caring for the bereaved. From 2004 to 2008 he was a Funeral Director, working for a small independent Hampshire firm and is also a trained and experienced volunteer with the West Berkshire branch of Cruse Bereavement Care.
